The Big B******* Walking club - Fifth outing... Newmillardam

And for this week, back to where we started all of this, Newmillardam out on the edges of wakefield.  There’s a number of different walks to be had from Newmillar, from the short walk around the constructed path on the lower levels near the lake, to the high road that takes you up around around the top of the dam and all the way out beyond the lake to the fields and on to the high path leading back to the entrance.

On this occasion, we took the high path, but started on the North side of the dam, which we know to be the harder edge of the walk.

Did that ever prove to be a right decision...

The first thing we found was that the path we chose to walk, while worn in the manner of a path that people have walked upon, was also not the easier one on the lower levels, so there were times when we found ourselves tramping up and down in untamed undergrowth.

We suspect that the martians didn’t land on Horsell common, they landed in Newmillar Dam...

Toilet, Shelter, Waystation?  Who knows...

The lake becomes a stream when you wander beyond the boundaries...

When you go walking in the fields, be aware of the heat levels...

There is wildlife everywhere (Zoom in...)

There are always bridges...

Some are larger than others...

Some you never realised were bridges (this from the road above looks like a wall...)

And there is no better sight than the cars waiting to take you back...

In all, around six miles, less than two hours, it’s starting to pay off in terms of overall fitness, yet to see reduction in waistline, but like all things, it takes time, just got to keep finding interesting things...

The other thing of course is in the decision to do the hard bits of the walk first, note for all fellow Big B*******, get the hard bit out of the way first, don't let it be waiting for you on the way back...
